{"id":914,"date":"2025-05-24T16:53:01","date_gmt":"2025-05-24T14:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bisacquino.com\/calvary-church\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T00:04:21","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T22:04:21","slug":"calvary-church","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bisacquino.com\/en\/calvary-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Calvary Church"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\ud83c\udfa7 STAGE 1 &#8211; CALVARY CHURCH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Holy Calvary of Peace<\/strong> is a place where art, faith and landscape come together in a unique atmosphere.<br\/>Every architectural and naturalistic element recalls the moments of the Passion, transforming the site into a true <strong>oasis of rare beauty and profound spirituality<\/strong>.<br\/>It presents itself as an authentic garden of the soul, set on a hill overlooking the surrounding scenery.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The small church on the summit, built in 1833 following a mission of the Liguorini Fathers, holds a <strong>very precious fragment of the Cross of Christ.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A long, scenic stone staircase leads to the churchyard, in the center of which a stone medallion, the work of bisacquinese <strong>Salvatore Ragusa<\/strong>, depicts the pierced Sacred Heart. On the facade of the church emerge bas-reliefs by the same author, including one inspired by Leonardo&#8217;s celebrated Last Supper.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stones of the staircase were brought by mules to be carved on site thanks to the industriousness of the <strong>Confraternity SS. Crocifisso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To the side stands a small bell tower, built by salvaging the church bell of the now defunct former Scavotto Hospital.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The small church welcomes visitors with a fine altar and a statue of <strong>Our Lady of Sorrows<\/strong>.
